The job
Fitting, from survey to handover.
Nothing to break up, no screed to pour or leave to dry: that is what makes the job short. Here is what happens before, on the day itself, and after.
Before: the design
Main heating is not laid by the metre. It is calculated, room by room.
- You give us the floor areas or the plans, the clearance available under the doors, the floor covering you want, and the condition of the floor.
- We work out the demand of each room, then the laying plan: what is covered, that is 75 to 85% of the floor area, the output, the position of the thermostats, the electrical lines.
- We check the floor: dry, sound, flat to within 2 mm over one metre. If it is not, a levelling compound comes first.
On fitting day
- The old floor covering stays in place if it holds firm.
- The reflective layer is rolled out, silver side up.
- The insulating layer is laid on top.
- The strips of film are laid side by side, leaving the shower, the bath and fixed furniture clear.
- The electrician connects each room to its thermostat.
- The floor covering is laid straight away: wood flooring or click vinyl, directly on the film; tiles, on a mat or a dry screed.
- We bring the floor up to temperature and go over it with the thermal camera, room by room, before showing you the settings.
The course of a 30 m² room, hour by hour, is on the home page.
The times the manufacturer states
| Job | Time |
|---|---|
| The heating alone | about 75 m² a day, with two people |
| One to two rooms, floor covering included | one day |
| A bathroom of 8 to 12 m², mat and tiles included | one day if the floor is flat, plus the setting of the adhesive |
| An apartment, new floor included | one to two days; in Frankfurt, an apartment of around a hundred square metres was fitted out in one working day |
| An added storey of 80 m² | a day and a half |
| A cellar: heating, then wood flooring | two days |
| A new 220 m² house | four days |
These are the manufacturer’s times and jobs, in Germany. It does not state the size of the team for each. For yours, ask for the time along with the quote.
What you prepare
- The room, empty. A new floor is being laid in it.
- The floor covering. It must be approved for underfloor heating by its manufacturer: it says so on its data sheet. The rules for each floor covering are on the fitting without screed page.
- The electricity. Before the job, the electrician checks the protection for each room at the consumer unit.
After
There is no bleeding and no annual service. Under floating wood flooring or vinyl, no gradual heating-up either: you set the thermostats, and that is all. According to the manufacturer, only the version under a cement screed needs one, with the agreement of the screed’s manufacturer. What the manufacturer guarantees is on the warranty and certifications page.

Frequently asked questions
Your questions on this subject.
How long for one room?
According to the manufacturer, one to two rooms a day, floor covering included; a team of two lays about 75 m² of heating a day.
Do we have to move out?
No. We proceed room by room, with no channels to cut and no screed to pour: the manufacturer speaks of dust-free fitting, during which the other rooms stay lived in. The room being worked on, however, must be empty.
Who connects the heating?
An electrician. Each heating circuit has its own line and its own protection at the consumer unit, to the standard of the country. At commissioning, the electrician measures the insulation resistance and tests each circuit.
When can we walk on it?
Straight away with wood flooring or click vinyl: there is no glue and no drying time. With tiles, after the adhesive's usual setting time.
What if my floor is not flat?
Beyond a deviation of 2 mm over one metre, a levelling compound is needed before fitting. It is one more step, with its drying time.
